BURBANK, Calif. -- The day before he announced he was running for governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger was joking about his candidacy on the "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" DVD extras he was taping.
A source with Zap2it.com has confirmed that while the actor was recording the commentary for the DVD of his latest film at Warner Studios in Burbank, he said, "I've had a lot on my mind with this gubernatorial candidacy hanging over my head and all. The Democrats have flooded me with calls and said, 'Don't run, don't run, we love you in the movies,' and the film critics have been calling and saying, 'You're not a good actor, go run for governor!'"
The ad-lib will be kept on the DVD for Warner Bros., which is expected to be released later this year.
Schwarzenegger drove up alone to the recording studio in his Humvee, wearing shorts and seeming rather jovial. Engineers in the recording studio talked among themselves and figured for sure he wasn't going to run for the state's highest office because he seemed too calm.
Nowhere else in the "T3" audio commentary did Schwarzenegger mention the governorship possibility. The next day (Aug. 6) he made the announcement on Jay Leno's "Tonight Show".
Director of "T3" Jonathan Mostow told the group of engineers that he has spent more time in the past few months with Schwarzenegger than his wife Maria Shriver did, and the director had no clue the actor had plans to dive into politics.
Schwarzenegger says he'll be spelling out his platform over the weekend during speeches.
